Certainly there is some commission from 4NCL weekends. That has been the business model for some years and is hardly a secret. 4NCL entry fees are really very cheap when one considers what one gets in return, and they can only be this way with there being other sources of income. As Roger says, no one is required to use the hotels in question, unlike in some international events.

The problem did arise that 4NCL struggled to know exactly how many of its players did use the hotels in question, and was reliant on the hotels providing the correct information. Captains of a certain vintage may remember getting the odd email from Mike when he was trying to find out for himself. That was one of the reasons for engaging Guaranteed Events.

This is the umpteenth recent question about 4NCL which could have been asked at any time over the last twenty years, always with a satisfactory answer. There is more than a sense of desperation about the Pein campaign.

There was a lengthy discussion about governance some years ago.
Some of it may still be relevant.

Roger Emerson, who follows but is not a member of this place, has asked me to post the following in his name:
Roger Emerson wrote:
1) All this talk of “a kangaroo court” is just plain wrong. The basic facts are not trumped up, but indisputable: Chris Fegan's posts deliberately breached Board confidentiality, breached Board policy on posting here, risked prejudicing the formal complaint brought by Rob Willmoth and denigrated the CEO. All these things could bring the ECF into disrepute. So the Non-Executive Directors were taking disciplinary action in respect of established and undeniable facts.

2) Tim Wall seems to recognise, although Chris Fegan does not, that ALL THREE Non-Executive Directors agreed to notify Mr Fegan of these breaches and seek remedies by him. It appears that Mr Fegan refused, so the Non-Executive Directors censured him and included that in their report to Council. I expect ALL THREE Non-Executives can confirm this, either at the AGM or before it.

3) Apparently, Mr Fegan seems to believe that his human rights are being denied through limitations being placed on his ability to post on this forum. This is based on a fundamental misunderstanding. He can abuse ECF officials to his heart's content, BUT NOT WHILE HE HIMSELF IS AN ECF OFFICIAL. One would hope that the results of the forthcoming elections will free him from this obligation.

4) I am pleased to see that “proof by assertion” gets short shrift in this forum."
David

Roger Emerson is a well known Truran activist and propagandist and frankly a much discredited individual not least because of his recent abuse and possible illegal GDPR misuse of the 4NCL database which is currently under investigation.
His views carry little, if any weight or credence with impartial individuals.

Chris

The ECF are using Guaranteed Events to front up the hotel bookings for some of its events. It would be a reasonable question, possibly for the Finance meeting to ask that a broad outline of the financial arrangements were made available. It might say that Guaranteed Events receives a commission from the hotels which it shares with the ECF and the ECF uses it to defray event costs.

One question I wanted to ask was

Are the 4NCL email lists intended for use (amongst other things such as 4NCL business) as communication channels as part of an ECF election campaign?

Presumably all candidates (regardless of political complexion) have been offered use of such means?

Merely curious.

Why no mention of the CSC email list in your enquiry John?

I fail to see any comparison between the situation at CSC, which provides Malcolm with a decent income, and 4NCL which patently doesn't benefit anyone to any meaningful degree, if at all. Jonathan's final paragraph summarises the matter very succinctly.

Do you think that list has been used a campaign communications channel?

As far as I know it has not but you may know differently.

If a mailing list intended for one purpose is used by the same person for a different purpose, that's only one side of the scales. You still have to balance that legitimate interest of the data collector against the personal rights of the data subjects. I am not sure which of your rights has been violated by an email consulting you about an upcoming election.
