Yes, one would hope that the Register of Interests is up to date and has entries for *all* election candidates. I doubt it's the responsibility of the Governance Committee, if that's what you're saying Bob.

Re: Chair of the Governance Committee 2021
I spoke to the chair of governance about it recently, possibly coincidentally.
My understanding is that it is the responsibility of board members to update it but governance is happy to remind them.
I did read the regulation, I don't think a candidate is required to update it although I suppose a question they should anticipate.

Paul , The newbie directors have shown the required willingness and compliance in updating the register, but the CEO does not seem to be setting a good example here. How can we choose a new CEO without some accurate information on the register from all parties?

I think if you have a specific concern you should share it with Robert Stern. Maybe copy one of the NEDs whose independence you respect if you do not consider Robert and his team neutral (which I do, but I understand this is a point of difference)

Bob, can you spell out what you think the CEO (Mike Truran) should have done but hasn't with regard to his entry in the Register of Interests?Bob Kane wrote: ↑Fri Oct 01, 2021 3:15 pmPaul , The newbie directors have shown the required willingness and compliance in updating the register, but the CEO does not seem to be setting a good example here. I can see that Mike has an entry in the Register (in column D) which is here.
The requirement for declaring interests is specified in 2.5 of Regulation 4 which is here.

Ok Angus :
To avoid speculation and to meet the regulation it would be useful to have ...
A declaration from the CEO about how much commission is paid to the 4NCL organization from "Guaranteed events ltd" on rooms booked at 4ncl and ECF events.
Are members getting good value ? how do we know?
the regulation
2.5 ECF officials must ensure that their actions are objective and that they declare any
conflict of interest. Standards for communication are outlined in sections 3 and 4. A
public register of interests in chess-related organisations, events and businesses is to
be maintained to ensure that the highest standards of openness are seen to be
observed.

4NCL has always been transparent and, indeed, excellent value. This is starting to look like a dirty trick.
Nothing to see here.

Not necessarily, it looks like Guaranteed Events are also doing the accommodation for the British Championships.
So the question seems reasonable.

Unlike some FIDE events, there's no exclusivity of hotel booking as a condition of playing. Players are at liberty to book at the event hotel or nearby using the usual booking websites.
Perhaps my information is out of date, but I thought that commissions took the form of free or discounted use of meeting rooms and a free room or two given to invited players or arbiters.

Sorry Bob, I'm struggling to understand. Are you saying the 4NCL receives commission on hotel bookings for ECF events? If yes, do you have evidence for that (it sounds unlikely to me)? Of course what the 4NCL does for its own events is its own business and nothing to do with the ECF.Bob Kane wrote: ↑Fri Oct 01, 2021 6:20 pmOk Angus :

Seems a bit of mud slinging from Malcolm’s team so assume things are not going well?
Cheers

I'm hearing very troubling rumours that Mike Truran crossed the road WITHOUT using the green cross code in 1974

Truly, what with this and Chris Fegan's intemperate rants, this seems like a campaign in chaos.

Re: Chair of the Governance Committee 2021
The 4NCL did receive commission on room bookings a long time ago. It told teams that it was reliant on this income to make ends meet and there was a suggestion that teams not booking any/enough rooms should pay a higher entry fee instead. That didn't happen.Roger de Coverly wrote: ↑Fri Oct 01, 2021 7:00 pmPerhaps my information is out of date, but I thought that commissions took the form of free or discounted use of meeting rooms and a free room or two given to invited players or arbiters.
I don't know if it still does get commission. The arrangements must be different now because room bookings are done through Guaranteed Events.
