Most Club players are happy just to play. Who does what outside the club and league is remote to many.

In a sense, whom the silver members choose to elect is a matter for them. However, most don't vote with the result that a candidate seems to need just 50 or 60 loyal followers - say, the membership of a single large club - to ensure selection. That probably should be a matter for concern because, if it happens, it subverts democracy. Meantime, I'll add my congratulations to John Reyes who to all appearances is doing a sterling job.

I have
"I shouldn’t blow my own trumpet too much ..." [from afore-mentioned chess.com blog]

Heaven forbid that anyone should think that.
