ECF Club Finder

Post by John Upham » Mon May 24, 2021 4:39 pm

Today I received the following from Mike Truran:
Dear chess colleagues
I’m emailing you to ask if you would, in your capacity as a league or county official, be willing to contact your local clubs and ask them to review the information shown for them on the ECF Clubfinder map? The ECF Clubfinder map is a very useful facility for players looking for clubs when, for example, wanting to try out playing over the board after a diet of online chess during lockdown, moving to a new area, or looking for suitable clubs for their children. So I hope you will agree that clubs have an enlightened self-interest in having up-to date and accurate information shown on it!

Your clubs can find the Clubfinder map here - https://ecf.azolve.com/clubfinder.htm. If any changes need to be made all the clubs need to do is to complete the Add/Amend your Club form here - https://britchess.wufoo.com/forms/w1i1j1we007tesu/

While writing, may I also mention the ECF’s new Chess Clubs page in the Communities menu of the ECF website, which contains (among other topics of interest) latest Covid-19 guidance and articles, and will shortly contain articles about clubs’ experiences with re-opening for over-the-board chess. Again, please share this with your clubs if you can. The link is here - https://www.englishchess.org.uk/clubs-home-page/
Many thanks in advance for your help!
Kind regards
Mike Truran
Chief Executive, English Chess Federation
This is an excellent initiative.

Let us hope that nobody derives a pecuniary advantage from it.

Ok I'll bite. :)

There is an obvious difference between a request from the national body for data for a specified purpose, and a request for data from somebody running a consultancy/business in the chess field without specified purpose. See also the experience of the private sector consultant producing reports in the public sector, where all too often the real work is done by the public sector. My reference to pecuniary benefit on the other thread may have seemed abrupt but it wasn't without reason. I also think the request from Mike Truran is considerably politer than other examples, but perhaps nobody says' 'please' or similar when requesting something on line.
