National Lampoons. I've heard it a few times from Americans, although the humour has always escaped me.

Heh, that's quite good

Re: New ECF Rating Database
The ECF rating database has been updated with ratings labelled Oct 1, but it is unclear if these are newly calculated as mine has stayed at 1998 since Aug 1

What a very frustrating number to be 'locked down' on!Tim Spanton wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 9:40 amThe ECF rating database has been updated with ratings labelled Oct 1, but it is unclear if these are newly calculated as mine has stayed at 1998 since Aug 1

Your ECF rating will not have changed unless either:Tim Spanton wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 9:40 amThe ECF rating database has been updated with ratings labelled Oct 1, but it is unclear if these are newly calculated as mine has stayed at 1998 since Aug 1
1. You have played rated OTB chess under ECF auspices since August 1;
or:
2. You applied in advance to have your overseas games ECF rated.

Why will my rating not have changed if it covers the last 12 months?!David Sedgwick wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 9:51 amYour ECF rating will not have changed unless either:Tim Spanton wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 9:40 amThe ECF rating database has been updated with ratings labelled Oct 1, but it is unclear if these are newly calculated as mine has stayed at 1998 since Aug 1

If people followed that rule consistently, this forum would be a lot quieter.David Sedgwick wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 10:43 amGood point!Tim Spanton wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 10:40 amWhy will my rating not have changed if it covers the last 12 months?!

Re: New ECF Rating Database
The list gives a clue about how much OTB chess is currently being played. There are 48 players whose rating has gone up. I don't think there's any way of determining how many players' ratings have gone down, or remained unchanged despite playing some games.David Sedgwick wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 9:51 amYour ECF rating will not have changed unless either:

Without going through the details of every player, so the list below may not be complete, there has been OTB activity in:
- Thanet
- Huddersfield
- Coulsdon Chess Fellowship
- Bognor and Arun
- Wanstead and Woodford
- Isle of Man

Re: New ECF Rating Database
Yes, but since an ECF rating covers the previous 12 months, I would have thought most people's rating would have changed from Aug 1 to Sep 1 to Oct 1, not least because of the 2019 BritishIan Thompson wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 10:49 amThe list gives a clue about how much OTB chess is currently being played. The list is displaying cumulative change between the 1 July grade, converted to a rating, and 1 October rating.Tim Spanton wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 10:59 amYes, but since an ECF rating covers the previous 12 months, I would have thought most people's rating would have changed from Aug 1 to Sep 1 to Oct 1, not least because of the 2019 British

Re: New ECF Rating Database
I find it hard to believe my rating stayed at exactly 1998 since from Jul 1 to Sep 30 I played at Bridlington (maybe not ECF graded), Telford, the British, Northumbria 'Paignton', Bradford and Crewe as well as various league games.Ian Thompson wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 11:13 amThe list is displaying cumulative change between the 1 July grade, converted to a rating, and 1 October rating.Tim Spanton wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 10:59 amYes, but since an ECF rating covers the previous 12 months, I would have thought most people's rating would have changed from Aug 1 to Sep 1 to Oct 1, not least because of the 2019 British

Re: New ECF Rating Database
I thought they were using an Elo method from now on. So like the FIDE International ratings, they only change when rated games are reported. I'm frozen at 2058 which is a conversion from 181.Tim Spanton wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 10:40 amWhy will my rating not have changed if it covers the last 12 months?!
