Indeed, an observation that does not only apply to elections in the chess world
LOL, the temptation to point that out was yet another which I found hard to resist. :D

"I've heard it asked "Do they understand what they're voting for?" and, on occasion, have had to resist the temptation to observe that - on that point - the speaker might usefully look in the mirror."

Not talking about chess obviously, but I often feel that the very fact that people are eager to stand for political office is strong evidence that they should be disqualified from doing so...

Yes juniors can vote in these elections. I have some reservations about this but discovered I was in a minority when the point was discussed on the governance committee or board.
I'm sorry but what possible objection could there be to junior members having the same voting rights as adult members. It's true that for younger juniors the vote might be exercised on their behalf but parents are an important interest group within junior chess. And for older junior players the decisions the board makes affects them as much as any other player.

There may be an argument for separate representatives for junior members (on the grounds that junior membership sits slightly apart) and I would be curious to know if the ECF byelaws or company law prevent a minor from actually holding that role.

Juniors could perhaps be easily influenced by others to vote. A few years back the vote for ECF Player of the Year had to be abandoned because school pupils voted en masse for one particular candidate. If parents want to influence what the ECF does then they should join under their own name and not hide behind their child when voting.

Unfortunately that is a permanent problem with democracy - who knows, if only adults in America could vote perhaps Donald Trump wouldn't be President!

I'm sorry to say I strongly disagree and in any case we hold junior players accountable for their behaviours while playing chess. In any case junior players are only voting for an individual to cast votes on their behalf and not directly voting on any motion.

Now that the election is completed I will be making a statement here about the voting arrangements. However, I am consulting others that have been involved so I'm not sure when that will happen.

In due course? For most elections that means when the winners are announced.
