The odds on board 2 are not as bad as the numbers would suggest - if the fide ratings were not a year behind AND completely broken Freddie would be more like a 2200 grade judging from his interview with Matthew saddler and Natasha Regan last night where he demonstrated some very good understanding of the game.
Lose one queen and it is a disaster, Lose 1000 queens and it is just a statistic.

The chief arbiter, Shohreh Bayat, has kindly agreed to go to my opponent's house, and Arbiter John Ariss has agreed to go to mine, so whatever the result, there can be no accusations.
For the record, I offered to go to Newham when I saw your post, but I learned that the superior arrangement which you mention had already been made.
Thanks anyway David. Really appreciated.

I have been playing 15+10 rapid games most weeks with Freddy since October. I am currently 29-25 down. 2200 is a good estimate, a little low if anything.

I have realised that in these feverish times my comment might have been taken to hint at something it most certainly did not. I was merely amused by the fact that according to the Elo system White's expected outcome is of the order of e to the minus a large number squared.

I believe the commentators thought White's winning idea was difficult to spot especially from a few moves earlier.

But how often is anyone below IM level, let alone a player unknown OTB except a handful of games in BUCA ten years ago, able to trade blow for blow with Keith and maintain equality in a long ending or near ending?
Quite. I was just interested in the dubious techniques of disguising engine use. There are all sorts of strange-looking results ratings wise. Well done to Keith for getting through this seeming swamp of an event.

Edit: I'm not surprised no one saw 33...Qf4!! 34 dxc5 Rxd2 35 Qxd2 Qxe4+ 36 Kg1 c3!! in Arkell-Adams. I doubt I'd have seen that even if given it as a puzzle.
blog inspired by Bronstein's book, but using my own games: http://200opengames.blogspot.co.uk/

Unfortunately despite my best efforts, including having two willing arbiters on standby - 3 including David Sedgwick - my efforts have been in vain and we will play without arbiters on site.

One of the nice things about a return to OTB chess will be seeing the improvement that lots of players will show due to hard work during lockdowns and the extended off season. I must apologise to Peter for claiming the opening he played against me at a recent OTB blitz was 'dodgy', it turns out he was simply much better prepared than I was!

There will also be players who do not reach to their online levels, or perhaps may not return at all.

7.10 pm, nothing on Chessbomb.

Can anyone supply a link to the top three games?

Keith Arkell's game is here: https://www.chess.com/game/live/22184455353
That link just brings up a starting position of Player v Opponent with 10 minutes each, no sign of Arkell or Ismail. Also the top three boards (6.5 plus three 6.0) can produce a winner, so they all need to be viewable. And what are the tie-break rules? No sign of that information on the ECF British Online Championship website.

You need to be logged into a Chess.com account for the link to work I believe. This is the link to Frederick vs Mickey https://www.chess.com/game/live/22184456589

I fear that that was a casualty of the 24 hours delay.
