Well, it does happen, but not as often as people may think...

FWIW, I recently received a chess.com snotagram with the news that I had misbehaved and wasn't allowed to make any comments for 24 hours. I am (generally) very well-behaved and couldn't understand this, so I queried it and soon received a message that one of their algorithms had incorrectly fingered me - profuse apologies and the algorithm left hanging its head in shame. I was immediately reinstated

Once is too often. All this stuff puts a black cloud over chess.com and any organisation which does business with them.

Gosh, these really are revolutionary computer algorithms.

Check out John Foley's friends. :)
Anyone else you fancy a go at while you're in the mood?

I've had a weekend off. A bit of exaggeration/hyperbole on my part, but otherwise entirely fair comment. It wasn't me that in response to a robust but polite line of questioning about ECU and FIDE election, accused the questioner of trolling. But I'll defend myself when I believe a line has been crossed. John Foley simply has to withdraw the remark and it won't be mentioned again. And if I am gratuitously rude to you then I'll apologise in timely fashion.
I recognise that sometimes debate can get a bit heated and there is a place for magnanimity - others seem to find this rather more difficult.

If you ever intend to be magnanimous do let us know. It would be a shame to miss it.

Nick - It took you six months or more to apologise for misrepresenting me during which time you tried to pretend I didn't exist. I've apologised faster than you to other posters, there are many who have never received an apology from you. I'm happy to learn from you on magnanimity, but I won't be commenting further on the matter in this place unless you do so.

All of the ecf online chess is blitz or rapid. I understand that these are more popular online formats. However, they hold no interest for me personally. The very popular 4ncl online has shown that there is an appetite for slower formats for the many "serious" players who since the pandemic have no opportunity to play some "serious" games.
Have the ecf tried to run any longer time control events? If not, is there a reason why?

I run monthly weekend tournaments on Tornelo which I think is a superior platform for serious chess events. All the games are ECF graded. If you sign up for my newsletter and upgrade you get big discounts on entry fees.
