Re: Rules off chess
William. There are no separate ECF rules of chess. For events in England the FIDE Laws of Chess apply unless specific provisions (e.g. the 0 minute default time) are overridden by the rules of a particular competition. The FIDE Laws can be accessed at http://www.fide.com/component/handbook/ ... w=category I am not sure how printer-friendly this source is.

Thank you john i will just print out a copy of the local league rules then that should surfice.
I knew there were certain things that we over ruled from the FIDE laws ie there stupid default time that was why i thaught there must be a rule book or document for english chess lol.

A printer-friendly PDF of the FIDE Laws can be downloaded from the Chess Arbiters' Association website - http://chessarbiters.co.uk/Documents/Laws2009.pdf.John Philpott wrote:The FIDE Laws can be accessed at http://www.fide.com/component/handbook/ ... w=category I am not sure how printer-friendly this source is.

William,
With regard to the default time you mentioned, the ECF do have 'rules' on this. It is that unless the tournament states otherwise the default time for normal games is 30 minutes and for rapidplay games 10 minutes. This default time also applies to Scotland and Wales.
This obviously overrules the zero default set by FIDE unless a tournament wishes to make it otherwise.

I remember reading this somewhere before but I can't find it now. Does anybody have the link to the ECF statement regarding this or any other ECF 'rules' of chess that override FIDE rules?Alex McFarlane wrote:... the ECF do have 'rules' on this. I think you may be referring to Jack Rudd's posting at:Peter Brace wrote:I remember reading this somewhere before but I can't find it now. In my opinion Jack has summarised the position rather well.
