Two IMs going down in flames.
Alan Merry losing to Trisha Kanyamarala on board 13 (a rating differential of 258 points).
David Eggleston losing to Aron Saunders (a smaller rating differential: 235 points) on board 25.

Re: British Chess Championship 2024
They were 2 of my 8 to watch out for. ( boards 13 and 25). Indy against Ameet was another, but Ameet turned it around in the end.Christopher Kreuzer wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 6:31 pmTwo IMs going down in flames.

Jude Shearsby was another - Black v Rich Palliser, but Richard seems to be hanging on now after escaping from -6 earlier. Another of my 8 was Elise Dicen to beat John Richardson, which she did brilliantly.

Does anyone know why the colour allocation for the top four boards has not followed the normal alternating pattern?

See above (Adams is really the second seed, although showing on top board. So it the usual black - white - black pattern according to seeding).Nigel White wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 7:16 pmDoes anyone know why the colour allocation for the top four boards has not followed the normal alternating pattern?

Eggleston lost but Kanyamarala v Merry is about to be drawn. Doubtless White was winning but not at all as easily as the computer assessment suggested. I am still very impresssed by Kanyamarala, who looks like the clear favourite for the women's title (is she the defending champion? I forget).Christopher Kreuzer wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 6:31 pmTwo IMs going down in flames.

Some very good picks from Keith. John Richardson did blunder a pawn in the opening against Elise Dicen but there was still play in the position and I thought that White played with great authority.

Mickey's July 2024 FIDE rating is 18 points lower than It was in the July 2019 list, five years ago. I don't think we need to worry about him.Matt Mackenzie wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 6:24 pmGiven his age, maybe a slight dip is only to be expected?

I had a solid, unspectacular win against a young opponent I knew nothing of. The morning of game-inputting for the Penrose event paid off.

Cheers Jonathan - altogether my bunch scored 3.5/8 despite the 270 point average rating defecit. I know how good those kids are because they stole my rating off me!Jonathan Rogers wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 7:42 pmSome very good picks from Keith. I think Yan Lao might have something to say about that...Jonathan Rogers wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 7:39 pmEggleston lost but Kanyamarala v Merry is about to be drawn. If you were to get partial credit for the near misses too...!
I found the game on board six quite entertaining. As soon as Ameet got in d3-d4 though, I felt he would not lose, whatever the engine thought.
(Will you be playing in the senior's, Keith? Sounds like you have already done your bit for the ratings of the younger generation).

I suppose so. Still, I'll stick with it - easier than predicting the winner of the Open itself!Richard Bates wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 8:26 pmI think Yan Lao might have something to say about that...Jonathan Rogers wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 7:39 pmEggleston lost but Kanyamarala v Merry is about to be drawn.
