After checking this, it seems it is the other way around. He has the rating but not all the norms.

At 15 years six months, Royal aims to break David Howell’s 2007 UK record of becoming a GM at 16. For that, he needs a 2500 overall rating, which he achieved at Tenerife, and three 2600 GM performances in single tournaments. He already has two of those, and missed the third at Tenerife by a whisker.

Grieve is still in theory in the hunt for a GM norm, though his TPR is not great. Merry looks out of it now, having just lost in this round to Alex Golding (who looks nailed on for a third and final IM norm - currently performing at 2508).

Ghasi has a 2536 TPR, while it is difficult to calculate Royal's TPR as he has 4/4. It is currently showing as 3084.

Actually, all those are wrong. They are the TPRs after round three. Will have to wait until the round 5 draw is out to see what the state of play is. But as people said at the start of the tournament, lots of norm prospects.

And yes! Congrats go again to Calum Salmons (I thought he was losing to McShane, but he drew). The slight fly in the ointment being that because he is right up there with the norm seekers, he may affect their TPRs if he faces them (as he is rated 1999!). Will be interesting to see who he is paired with and how he does.

I was wondering how that ended up drawn. Did Luke just miss that? Calum clearly stayed alert to that possibility.

I had missed that. England teams for the Chess Olympiad.

Will be interesting to see how Shreyas fares against the team members who have been selected. The running score is 1-0 so far from a possible 4 match-ups.

No round 5 draw yet. The top pairing is obvious. Not sure about the rest.

The number of GMs is important, as there are currently only 5 GMs in the top two score groups, and while the 5 GMs in the next score group down will bubble up, it is entirely possible to stay high up the ranking list at the end of each round and not get paired with enough GMs. Shreyas is guaranteed to play a GM (Jones) in round 5.
