I assume you are volunteer number 0002?
No sorry but I spend enough of my own money on ECF sites as it is - getting chucked and starting this new domain was again additional cost..

I might be a bit tight I suppose but there you go

And would someone in the know with the authority of the ECF be prepared to co-ordinate collection with Holloid, on these terms? Andy Martin, can I volunteer you? It would hardly be a thankless task, even if it involved some effort... Failing that Stewart Reuben, you also read this forum, ...?

Paul.

We have come full circle back to my initial post.

I have no doubt at all that the sets can be distributed and enough volunteers can be found among the English Chess Community to do this.

The academies I hope to set up, if I am not blocked from directing, could act as hubs or collection points. It is absolutely amazing to me that this was not considered in the first place and that all the time spent on hauliers etc has been basicaly wasted so far. I think you'll find Charles Wood said that Holloid wanted the sets delivered in a certain, specific way involving hauliers, but now that is obviously not going to happen.

However, all these arguments are irrelevant until the sets appear. Over to Gerry and Peter.

Thanks Andrew. Would you be able to suggest the idea to Gerry and Peter? And get them to agree if we can produce enough volunteers. Otherwise this just drags on for ever...

Surely there is some sort of status update then Andrew or is there just no sign of any sets of even any news on the project?

And anyway I thought that Holloid would produce them for free. Even if we only got 20 thousand sets rather than 250 thousand promised and had to pay a small amount for them, it still has to be worth doing.

For a status update, contact Gerry and Peter.

Refer them to the statement on the front of the ECF website as I have done.

Distributing 250,000 chess sets is almost impossible. Distributing 20,000 is very feasible. Andy's idea of setting up 7 academies is (in principal) a very good one. Take for example Wellington College, this is a vast school, which I suspect could easily find room to house 5,000 sets. Wellington holds a number of events throughout the year and it would be relatively easy for people to play at the School and take sets back to their own school afterwards.
The problem is getting the sets in the first place and Andy's postings seem to be getting less and less encouraging.

LOL - are you still director Andrew :?:

There seems to be something you are not telling us here Andrew.

You seem a little frustrated.

Will Holliod produce the 250,000 sets that is quoted on the ECF web page ?

No, they won't. Not nearly. Not any.

End of.

Life is full of little surprises.

I have to apologise for the publication of a photo on the ECF website which has the board the wrong way round, not for the first time in this project. I knew nothing about this change and I am trying to rectify the problem.

Actually, I have been a complete fool and I must apologise again.

The girl is obviously a spectator, viewing the board from the side. How silly of me.

I have a spare copy of 'Man vs Machine' by Ray Keene lying around and offer it as a prize for the first person to reconstruct the moves of the game that the children are playing.
