Actually that is a good thing, as it is illegal to hit the clock with a captured piece (although nearly everybody does it!)
I don't think it is reasonable to interpret Rule 6.7 b as prohibiting pressing the clock with an object held in the hand which played the move. Hitting it, of course, may be a violation of Rule 6.7 c.
