Probably of no relevance whatsoever.

Staying on track.

Al Pacino at the start of 'Righteous Kill.'

"My grandmother used to take me to Washington Square Park
to watch Bobby Fischer play 10 games at the same time.

He was five-six moves ahead on each table.
Anyway, he became the world champ, didn't he?

Then he lost his f****** mind."

Looking at that opening sequence (move with one hand and press clock with the other, crack knuckles, announce "check", resign and then start fighting) shouldn't this be in the Irritating habits of juniors -a brief list thread?
Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.

Watching The Huntsman: Winter's War. Opening sequence - 'Queen takes King - and you just thought it was a game' as the king dies from a bit of witchcraft. I hope it's a good film.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

At one point, in this fine film, one character mentions an action was like a chess move.

Just watched the 1965 film 'Catch Us If You Can' which featured the Dave Clark Five.

In the opening scene Mike Smith, organ player and lead singer is playing chess with the guitarist Lenny Davison.
Board round the right way and it looked like a legit position.

Film not mentioned in Bill Wall's list of 1746 chess scenes from films.

Directorial debut of John Boorman, no less. Script by Peter Nichols.

"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

Hi Nick,

Twenty in minutes I was not 'Glad All Over' but I did see the 'Bits and Pieces.' (I changed channel.)

About 15 years ago (gosh seems like just a months ago ) a group of us had a regular Friday night spot in
The Royal Oak in Edinburgh singing and playing everything from Folk to Punk and Pop to Parodies.

The regulars were a mixture from all walks and ages and got on very well, however certain songs were banned
because they sometimes led to brawls. Things like 'The Sash' and 'The Fields of Athenry.' were off limits.

We added to that list with 'Glad All Over' because when a packed house joined in on the 'Thump - Thump' glad all over bit the lower tier
of the pub, the part often reserved for the genuine folkies, said the ceiling plaster was falling on them and they feared a cave in.

Thanks for the pic Justin.

There was a film shown on Film4 recently starring Anya Taylor-Joy - not the Queen's Gambit, but a film called 'Morgan', in which she plays an artificial humanoid which malfunctions. No chess theme, though at one point she is seen studying a position on a chess board. (I actually enjoyed that film more than Queen's Gambit).

Hi Reg,

You can see the chess bit in the trailer for the film. Look about 50 seconds in.

I've still not watched 'Queens Gambit'.

That is not surprising. It is mentioned in Bob Basalla's book 'CHESS IN THE MOVIES, but is reviewed under the alternate name, HAVING A WILD WEEKEND. His additional list is now very much longer.
