I notice an untitled Iranian player called Parham Maghsoodloo scored 8/10 in a Scheveningen match between Iran and a "World Stars" team which included the likes of Sargissian, Dreev, Edouard, Sokolov, Short. His TPR was 2862 which is quite incredible. I wonder if this is the highest ever TPR is for an untitled player?

He is one of four Iranian players born in this century rated over 2450. Only USA, with all their resources, can match this. I do not know the Iranians' secret.

The World U16 Olympiad is currently taking place in Slovakia. In what is probably the crucial match, Iran have just beaten Russia 3-1, with Maghsoodloo moving to 5.5/6. It would have been interesting to see how USA, the other world power at this level, would have fared, but sadly they decided not to take the risk.

Iran ran out winners of the tournament with Russia runners up. Maghsoodloo scored 7.5/9 with a TPR of 2642 to follow his 2862 the other week. Not too shabby for a 15 year old. He's definitely going to be one to watch out for.
