Howell looks to be winning, whilst Kramnik and Carlsen have at least a draw I'd imagine. Andras Adorjan'll be impressed with today's play, I dare say.

The game's very quickly turned against McShane now. Get the feeling he was incredibly short of time, because the last few moves have been horrible.

Kh5 is resignable for Mcshane, and Carlsen is winning

Just looking at the crosstable- barring a huge shock, Short will finish last, Adams and Howell with finish 3= .

Looks like Ben in the money if short does not win that will buy a few tipples over Christmas and New Year ! :) what odds you get on your bet Ben and what did you stake on it.

£20 @ 8/1 , £20 @ 6/1 , £10 top up @ 15/4 , think that was what it went off at with PaddyPower.

Obviously I got a bit overexcited - thought Carlsen could just take on f6.

Well now, maybe Ben shouldn't be counting his money just yet. To my eyes this has rather turned! - and Short's 58 Ka2 is certainly indicative of playing for a win.

56 c5 was the key move - it took me a while to realise that 56...Qxc5 would lose to 57 Qg2+ Kf8 58 Qa8 mate!

Which suggests that 55...Qh5 was an error, perhaps even a fatal one?

and Carlsen's 58....Qd1 looks desperate. At the very least Short can play Qe8+, xf7+, Qg7+ and f7, and with the queen on g7 able to retreat to b2 there is surely no perpetual.

That said - I'm only saying it's a winning try, not necessarily a win - and there may be better moves for White.

Late edit - maybe the queen should just stay on f7, and he then plays c7?

Short must have wanted to jump for joy hen he realised that he could play 56 c5 with impunity!

Will we jump from four winners to seven winners in the space of one day? Now there's a last round for you

Perhaps Carlsen should have taken on f6 - funny Qh5 looks to me like a computer move - that's what happens when you analyse everything with the engine of your choice running in the background, maybe.
