Magnus Carlsen: Times Young person of the year

Post by Neill Cooper » Sat Dec 28, 2013 6:28 pm

Another boost for chess in the media:
"He is active on Facebook and Twitter, loves football and jumped into a pool in his dinner suit to celebrate winning the world championship. This is the impossibly cool Magnus Carlsen who, at just 23. is achieving film-star style kudos with his brilliance.

Carlsen is currently the world No1 player at chess and the reigning world champion. Next spring and summer he stars with Lily Cole, the model and unconventional beauty, in the 2014 campaign by G-Star Raw, the urban-clothing designer brand."

The rest is behind the Times pay wall. http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/news/uk/a ... 959541.ece

Makes more sense than picking Gideon Osborne as "Briton of the year", anyway

Randomly picking the last thread about Carlsen, as I've just read the Chessbase transcript of a recent interview on VG (Norwegian TV) and thought people here who may have missed it would be interested:

Oh, and this as well:

Interesting comments in both.

Carlsen's interview on chessbase is really excellent (even if they just did the transcript).
All in all he appears to have his head screwed on the right way.

Big feature with photo in the FT today also, focusing on the future of chess as well as Carlsen's position in it.
