How can an individual earn a living through chess?

Some interesting thoughts. A friend of mine, rated about 2200, has moved to Texas and earns a good income by teaching mainly chess with a bit of English. The University of Texas and a number of High Schools offer chess scholarships, so parents are very keen for their children to learn the game. My friend has found a town where he is the highest rated player so he is a reasonably sought after commodity.

Go into a bank armed with a pocket chess set.
Ask them for all the money in the safe else you will show them a 'Chandler Endgame.'
That will work.

Invent an Eastern European name which sounds reasonably convincing , say that you are a GM (nobody is likely to check) and publish instructional chess books and collections of your games.

i am actually considering going to texas on a chess scholarship. i am waiting on gm bartolomeoj macieja to be their head coach so that i can interview with him
