Apparently there’s a horse called Chess Player. A few months ago a friend told me that (thinking of me) he’d had placed a tenner on the nose - the horse was the favourite and finished a close second. I told him what a coincidence that was because it’s where I mostly finish!

Yesterday evening I was watching Richard Linklater's film Before Midnight (2013) and during one sequence Ethan Hawke started talking about chess, computers and Garry Kasparov, and I think gave a brief impression of Kasparov.

I too have bet on Chess Player. It's how I pick my horses and dogs, anything to do with chess.
(It's also how I picked my wife - she has chequered eyes!)

Both Boardman (£5.00 to win) and Kings Knight (£2.00 e/way) came in so I have money coming back.
Good. Soon I'll be able to afford the cost a new chess book.
(Is it just me or have others also noticed that over £20.00 for a new book is fast becoming the norm.)

Recently read a short story by Ambrose Bierce, 'Moxon's Master' about a chess computer. I did some net searching on it.

The first couple of paragraphs are free to read.

It's a piece by Dominic Lawson in which he likens the appearance by the other Dominic (Cummings) before the Select Committee to a chess master taking on all-comers in a simul.
