Here's an example of what might be streaming from Trafalgar Square tomorrow. Danny Rensch v MVL in a bullet giant chess game.

No chess content beyond that he plays with his daughter and, quite rightly, never lets her win

Just came across this piece on Cy Enfield's 1946 Hide And Seek.
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

Hide and Seek is listed in Bob Basalla's original book. But you, Justine, have provided more valuable images,

Today's "i" has a supplement on the 2020 Olympics and explains the new (to the Olympics) sports, which are skateboarding, surfing, sport climbing and karate. For "sport climbing", we are told,
"In bouldering, the route an athlete takes to the top is called a problem - which is appropriate for a sport that can feel like a chess match against gravity."
I'm not entirely sure this description helps much, but a star performer is Runcorn's Shauna Coxsey, with "30 World Cup podiums to her name", so good luck to her.

Helpful or not, it is an analogy I have heard from multiple people. For example, I think this is very decent chess player, who plays less chess these days because he puts the same skills to use climbing.Kevin Thurlow wrote: ↑Fri Jul 23, 2021 4:42 pmToday's "i" has a supplement on the 2020 Olympics and explains the new (to the Olympics) sports, which are skateboarding, surfing, sport climbing and karate. You obviously know more about rock-climbing than me! I would get vertigo walking up Glastonbury Tor.
One of these days, I'll annotate a game and say it's like a game of football...

Watching all that sideways passing across the pitch and back again in the Euro Championship made me wonder if there would ever be any scope for a "not trying to win by normal means" power available to referees, It contrasted with Channel 4's rerun of the 1966 final where both teams mostly were trying to move the ball towards the opponent's end.Kevin Thurlow wrote: ↑Fri Jul 23, 2021 6:11 pm"One of these days, I'll annotate a game and say it's like a game of football...
