BBC News Channel.
The Context with Christian Fraser.
Garry Kasparov was interviewed by Christian about the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Chess was mentioned a few times in the interview.
It lasted for about 10 minutes.

Re: Media comments on chess
We all know about the chess in The Seventh Seal, but there's also a brief mention of chess in Bergman's Cries And Whispers, which I saw earlier this evening - Liv Ullmann tells her husband that someone (their daughter?) would like to play chess with him. No more than that though.
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

Justion >a brief mention of chess in Bergman's Cries And Whispers
It is mentioned in Bob Basalla's book, 'Chess in the Movies'.Basalla also mentions that Ingmar Bergman refers to chess in several of his films.
When I saw Bergman's films in my teens to twenties,i didn't have the compulsion to fasten on chess in films. But it was the chess in the Seventh Seal that brought me to Bergman in the first place.

Re: Media comments on chess
There is some brief discussion of chess about 3/4 of the way through the new Navalny film: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0016txs/navalny. The family is in Germany and Yuliya (wife) wants to play chess. Navalny says that she is the best player in the family and also mad keen after "The Queen's Gambit". But he is going to stick to "Call of Duty". Perhaps this indicates that even an insanely brave man will avoid a game of chess with a stronger player.

Tales of the Unexpected: 'The Best Chess Player in the World' was doing the rounds again. (Sky Arts)
Seen it before, (surely we all have) this time I just caught last the few minutes. typically a chess set is tumbled over
in one of the final scenes. The small brown plastic clock dated the programme. I checked, it was first aired in May 1984

Geoff 'The Best Chess Player in the World'.
I was the chess consultant that episode.
I usually recommend mechanical clocks rather than digital even for more recent shows. Inexperienced people find them much easier to set.

Today during the Word Snooker Semi finals between Higgins and O'Sullivan there was a comment comparing the play to chess. I didn't catch all of it.

To be honest, it would be more surprising if there hadn't been.Stewart Reuben wrote: ↑Fri Apr 29, 2022 6:06 pmToday during the Word Snooker Semi finals between Higgins and O'Sullivan there was a comment comparing the play to chess.

Hi Matt,
I thought it was well known. It seems to pop up at least once a year.
It's not too bad, one of the better ones. It was on the Sky arts channel you get as a freebie.
Hi Stewart,
I recall you saying your were the chess advisor. Pleased to report, the board was round the right way throughout.

Amazingly, you can still buy these today. Available at most 'health food' shops.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Re: Media comments on chess
Hi Gerald,
I've become mildly addicted to some of the Health Shop sweets. (chocolate covered dates, mint liquorice and peppermint tea.)
It started when I was given Holland and Barrett vouchers and a discount card as a Christmas Joke.
it's a family thing, we send each other things we know they will hate or have no use for.)
Next time I'm in I'll see if they have them biscuits.
