A segment on awkward handshakes features two players, who I don’t recognise, at the 2021 FIDE World Cup greeting each other with an inadvertent best-of-three game of rock, paper, scissors (minus the scissors) before settling on paper versus paper. I‘ve played this myself on more than a lot of occasions recently, but I haven’t got up to three yet.

And as its Soccer AM, a visual joke is followed by a verbal one. “My nephew works in a factory making chess pieces. He’s on (k)nights this week!”

I watched this yesterday on the way back from Abu Dhabi. It is about the 22 year old French Chess Champion, Michaelangelo Passanti, who is playing in a tournament in Budapest. He is challenged by an 8 year old wunderkind. Directed by Delodie Namer. They play without increments and it is difficult to follow the games.
I hadn't heard of it before yesterday. Nick Faulks didn't think highly of it. For a compulsive like me, it is required viewing.
It received a rave review on IMDB.

Today's "i" has a report (page 3) on Magnus Carlsen playing poker in the Norwegian Championship in Dublin (because of Norwegian gambling laws). It seems he was in 3rd place out of 167 players still in action at the end of day 2. They give a reasonable report on the chess part of his life.
