being a Labour member and into chess and economics, i am following Rachel Reeves on facebook and she is releasing lots of chess stuff recently which is very encouraging for a chess geek like me, maybe we will finally get some support from government for chess if Labour wins and she becomes chancellor.
I understand that that is the (unofficial) ECF thinking.

Government funding for chess was not being actively pursued with the Johnson administration and that is unlikely to change with the immediate next Prime Minister.

However, if we have a Labour Government after the next General Election, then it certainly will be, whether or not Rachel Reeves herself becomes Chancellor of the Exchequer.

RACHEL REEVES

An extensive article about her in the Sunday Times Magazine of 17 July.
Chess is mentioned twice in passing.
Her sister, Ellie, is also a labour mp.
And also played chess a bit as a junior.

Chess in the lives of Palestinian prisoners. (Rather odd board set-up in the photo.)

Perhaps some people have forgotten that government support for chess came in through the Department for Education when Margaret Thatcher was that minister.
But the real reason is that we had political clout at that time because of Sir Stuart Milner-Barry. That was also why several OBE awards were obtained.
We lost the support from the government at a time when the economy went downhill.
Tony Banks, when Minister fo Sport, announced he intended to make chess and bridge sports recognised as such. That would have saved us vat. He was sacked within the month.

Am I right in thinking you live just North of Reading and are interested in how far the distance is from me to you?
England is quite a small place, so Bucks in't very far.

"...the child had “made a move, and after that we need to give time for the robot to answer, but the boy hurried and the robot grabbed him”.

I thought every Russian schoolboy knew the rule of thumb about sitting on your hands before making a move.
In this case that rule of thumb was broken!

"....the robot grabbed him”

The first rule in Asimov's Robotic laws:
'A robot shall not harm a human, or by inaction allow a human to come to harm. '

It's gone rogue. Dismantle it before it builds itself a set of wheels, runs off and starts entering tournaments

Regarding Tony Banks, please note the reference to him in Edward Winter's feature article, "Chess and the House of Commons": https://www.chesshistory.com/winter/extra/commons.html

(towards the end, in connection with Tony Blair's government)

Struck by the graphic heading this piece (which has no obvious explanation that I can detect in the text)
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."
