That sounds like the point.

Re: NCCU and the MCF
I am going to follow this up (as the Yorkshire NCCU delegate). I want to know both sides are the argument and get it sorted.

For the record, although I know people don't like facts, the MCF has not withdrawn our application

Does that mean it is necessarily reconsidered at every NCCU meeting? Just asking.Mick Norris wrote: ↑Sun Jun 19, 2022 8:40 pmFor the record, although I know people don't like facts, the MCF has not withdrawn our application

It is up to the NCCU what they put on their agenda
Not sure if Yorkshire could get it on

Re: NCCU and the MCF
I was always under the impression that a clause had got itself into the NCCU constitution that gave the right of veto to any existing member to the admission of a new one and therein lay the fundamental problem. Have I got that wrong?Mick Norris wrote: ↑Sun Jun 19, 2022 10:15 pmIt is up to the NCCU what they put on their agenda

If you plough through the entire 23 pages of this thread, you will find an answer of sorts to that question. I won't attempt to summarise it, in case I get it wrong.Michael Farthing wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 7:43 amI was always under the impression that a clause had got itself into the NCCU constitution that gave the right of veto to any existing member to the admission of a new one and therein lay the fundamental problem. Great news
Thanks in particular to our friends in Yorkshire who have supported us for the last decade
Just shows what can be achieved by never giving up

There may be more to play yet. This thing has been devilishly complex, with twists and turns. For now, I look forwards to games commencing!

Well done Tim Wall, Stephen Westmoreland and others. You did a fantastic job and at long last sense has prevailed.

Andrew Wainwright wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2013 8:34 pmI can not begin to explain how angry I am about this decision.
On the one side the NCCU recognise that their actual contribution towards northern chess is pretty much negligible (given that only Yorkshire and Lancashire really compete at county level, their junior activities are at the bare minimum level and their NCCU club competition has pretty much died), and on the other side they reject an obvious solution to a lot of these problems - inviting the MCF back into the fold and recognising that they are separate to Lancashire and wish to stay as such.
I took on arranging the Pennine Cup (u16 tournament) this year to try and promote northern chess. For the first time in many years we had all but one county represented. I also invited the MCF to join in following discussions with Mick and Julian in order to foster closer relations with the MCF, they sent two teams to take part. I also previously arranged a 20 board match against the MCF with Bradford a year or so earlier, again to build bridges and get to know our northern neighbours a bit better.
I don't give a s*#£ what happened in 1975! I wasn't even born at that time for a start. Why 35+ years later do these people still think that they can dictate what happens in the NCCU just because they hold an historic grudge that frankly no one outside of Lancashire cares about?!
Why don't the NCCU grow a spine and stand up to them? If the constitution is the problem then change it. If certain individuals get the hump who cares!
If this is what the NCCU has to offer northern chess then I want no part of it and will certainly not be running the Pennine Cup again this year if this is their attitude.
Sorry to rant but for god sake who are these people!!!!

I'm absolutely astonished, albiet in a good way!
Always nice when the world gets more rational and cooperative
Might have four strong teams in the county championship qualifiers this year?!

I tried to explain the background to this saga to my wife this evening. As a rational human being she didn't get it.
She did understand when I said that our son will now get the opportunity to play the MCF every year. An opportunity that 30yrs ago, as a junior player, I did not have (nor did my counterparts in Manchester). I think that says everything.
