Like I said, I think the analogue ones are accurate enough and are the same for both people.
Definitely not guaranteed to be so. They consist of two separate clocks so it's quite likely they won't be equally inaccurate. It's also possible one will be running fast and the other one slow. If those two inaccuracies more or less cancel out it wouldn't be obvious that either clock was inaccurate.

How did we ever manage all the years between the clocks starting and the introduction of the digital clocks in the 90s?

I assume the clocks were calibrated for big matches ? I remember Short V Kasparov used an analogue clock,, perhaps that was the last big event to use them before the change over.

van der Sterren told me that once at a Lone Pine event he thought someone had fired a gun.
It turned out this was Walter Browne, on the adjacent board, pressing his clock.

Don't forget that the louder one presses the clock the stronger the move it must be.

Older clocks were pretty well engineered pieces of equipment which could stand up to quite a battering and keep on telling the right time - I really miss them actually, quick play and blitz tournaments have been ruined by increments (even though, i will give them their due in that they have allowed for local leagues to be rid of adjournments and adjudication which were a total farce)
Lose one queen and it is a disaster, Lose 1000 queens and it is just a statistic.
