Without thinking about it too much... are you a bishop or a knight person?

Bishop-answering people will be prejudiced according to colour, confining themselves to half the board.
On the other hand, Knight-answering people will have thought about the question too much, again prejudicing the results.

What point was that?

I like my own bishops but despise my opponent's knights ...

Knight circuits can be difficult to follow.
From the endgame KB+P v K doesn't always win, while KN+P does, but 2 knights alone can't force checkmate.
I prefer Bishops unless I've just caught my opponent in a knight fork.

My guess is that every strong player prefers bishops to knights.

Larsen preferred Knights. I would guess that Jon Speelman does too.
For me Bishops.
For me Bishops.

Knights.
Neither can two Bishops.

I think I'm more of a knight person, even though the bishop can overpower it in a lot of positions the knight generally creates the best tactics
Lose one queen and it is a disaster, Lose 1000 queens and it is just a statistic.

Adding up the straight forward replies that declare a preference, that's 6-6 so far - surprisingly even to me. My prediction of 75% - 25% in favour of Bishops is well wide of the mark !

And in ancient times, Chigorin was majorly pro-Knight.Keith Arkell wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2024 6:05 pmLarsen Preferred Knights. I would guess that Jon Speelman does too.

I don't get that impression, although the bishop pair does seem to be a popular preference. I've seen plenty of top players with white play into the Berlin endgame or play the Nimzo as black (which white seems to avoid at a high level) to get the impression that it all depends on the position.Nick Ivell wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2024 5:53 pmMy guess is that every strong player prefers bishops to knights.
