Trading Places

Post by Tim Spanton » Fri Feb 09, 2024 5:00 pm

I am assuming this is not an early April Fool, but ChessBase has announced a series of chess trading cards.

In 2008 I invented a Chess Fighting Card game. Here is one card. There are only six.

Image

The Rules
Two player game. Deal three cards each.
First player plays an opening card.
Second player plays an opening card.
Who ever has the highest opening card wins the opening trick.

Winner of opening trick plays middle game card.
Second player plays middle game card.
Who ever has the highest middle game card wins the middle game trick.

Winner of middle game players the ending card.
Second player plays the end game card.
Who ever has the highest end game card wins the end game trick.

Count tricks. person with most tricks wins the game.
I have designed it so there will not be any draws.

Presumably one of a pair in a 54 card but not 52 card pack.

Which card would be most appropriate for

Ian Fraser Kilmister (24 December 1945 – 28 December 2015)?

There'd be some who'd say the nine of diamonds. (Only kidding, Geoff.)
"The chess-board is the world ..... the player on the other side is hidden from us ..... he never overlooks a mistake, or makes the smallest allowance for ignorance."
(He doesn't let you resign and start again, either.)

Hi John,

I know the 9 of diamonds reference but I'm English so no offence. Or perhaps you mean because I have settled in Scotland they are now cursed! :)

What playing card am I...the joker in a pack of 51 (I'm not, as they say, the full deck.) or the Jack of Hearts as in the Bob Dylan song but I need a Rosemary. You can get chess playing cards with openings on them. We should put those on the catch-all banned list, next time players are entering the playing hall the searchers have to look for packs of playing cards.
