They were converted using the formula 7.5* ECF + 700. That was correct by least squares fitting to adults when first devised but had already become out of date by 2019.
I wasn't sure of that, but if it really was the case that the old formula was out of date, would that not have been the ideal moment to update it?
Most of the original (2013) debate took place on these pages viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3994. The formula was reviewed in 2017 and 2019. Not only was the relationship unstable over time, but also dependant on the sample selection. For the purposes of deciding the initial conversion we did want ECF to be equivalent to FIDE levels. The decision was based on the January 2020 lists using adult ratings. The decision was that the old formula was OK. It's not clear whether that decision or the subsequent changes over the following 6 months gave us the situation that Wadih outlines. The original conversion had the added complication of a slope and constant, 2 parameter, fit which now should be just one- the difference (but it isn't and that involves a long story, too long to bring up here).

I am expecting to review the system annually and the 2013 review is herehttps://www.ecfrating.org.uk/doc/.

Not to rain on this parade, but does any of this matter, as long as an organiser/arbiter does the pairings consistently, and the seed order from Round 1 to the final Round doesn't change?

It's slumber-inducing, I agree, and nothing to do with dishonesty but it seems it's important to some people.

I mean you understand that both 'self-correcting' systems are based on different data, on the whole.

You are all nuts if you expect them to be the same, for every player.

My ECF rating for 1st May is 1943
My FIDE rating for 30th April was 1943

What does that prove?

Nothing !!!

I enjoyed most of your albums with "Yes" especially "Close to the Edge" and "Fragile".

I thought that was Jon Anderson.

As for the comment above, I believe the average ECF rating in England is around the 1600 mark so it must be comforting to know that these players are all crap at chess. Just the attitude we need to encourage the ordinary player. As for Paul's comment his FIDE rating for May is now 1934 which proves he's gone down by nine points.

Were you aware that you will get a modest boost to your FIDE rating on 1st March 2024?

I believe the formula, δ(rating) = 800 - 0.4 x rating applies to FIDE ratings below 2000, derived from determing the slope and intercept for a straight line with fixed points (1000, 400) and (2000, 0). It might be handier to express the formula as: r(new) = 0.6 x r(old) + 800.

If this is incorrect, someone will correct me.

Assuming the formula to be correct, your rating would receive an uplift of 34 points, taking you to 1949.
