Those on the Chess & Bridge email advertising list may have received a flyer about this clock. One other option it has is to whether to freeze or not on a flag fall. Setting it not to freeze panders to those arbiters who prefer the uncertainty of players not knowing which flag fell first. In other words preserving one of the shortfalls of mechanical clocks.

The Chess & Bridge email includes a link to a short pdf manual, which fails to give a list of settings in any font size.

I don't think so. The manual says "If freeze is activated, the clock will not be able to count down on either side if one side has reached 0:00". So one side will show 0:00, and the flag bars will flash, and the other will show >0:00, making it permanently clear which flag fell first. The alternative of not freezing the clock means the flag bars will only be displayed for 5 minutes, so you've only got that long to see which side ran out of time first, not forever.

What is the purpose of taking down the flag bar after five minutes?
If you want a picture of the future, imagine a QR code stamped on a human face — forever.

You'd need to reset it at some point so you could see which player ran out of time first at the next time control. Perhaps someone with a DGT clock can find out what they do if the next time control is in less than 5 minutes time.

Has anyone actually bought one of these clocks and wants to comment? I am getting frustrated that the LEAP KK9908 is not available to buy at present at a sensible price, so I have had to go for three earlier LEAP clocks at the moment - I might be forced to buy some of these unless matters improve.

I have requested a 2500 from DGT for review.

I immediately noticed that there is no socket on the side, or anywhere else, for a cable to connect it to the board. I wondered if that meant it had a wireless connection. No, it hasn't got one at all, so it's not a replacement for the DGT 3000.

...
The DGT 2010 was launched in 2007 and its replacement - the DGT 2500 - is on sale in 2023, making the product cycle about 16 years. Now, given that the DGT 3000 was launched in October 2014 it is obvious to me that its replacement is imminent. We only have to wait a mere 7 years!
