Applying for funding support?

Post by John Upham » Sun Jan 08, 2023 5:33 pm

Who would I have to contact from

The John Robinson Trust
The Chess Trust
The Friends of Chess

in order to apply for funding support for an English junior to play abroad on behalf of the ECF?

Thanks for your help.

https://www.englishchess.org.uk/the-joh ... ess-trust/ Contact details at the bottom of the page.
https://www.chesstrust.org.uk/ Contact details also at the bottom.
https://friendsofchess.wordpress.com/ The website is somewhat out of date so contacting any of Simon Brown, Stewart Reuben, David Sedgwick, Mike Gunn, Gerry Walsh or myself should suffice.

I am most grateful. Quite often I have found that web sites such as these (and EPSCA and LJCC and other junior ones etc) are hopelessly out of date and one spends much time chasing old contacts who complain that their web site has not been updated and they don't know who the current contact is.

Do you know if when the ECF asks a junior to represent them in a match if they, as a matter of course, suggest funding bodies to the player / parents or just assume that the parents will cough up the entire sum?

I don't know, sorry. My last involvement was back in 2014 but I suspect that the onus would be on the parents to self fund.
