The Goat and the Scapegoat by J.Rowson

Post by Geoff Chandler » Sat Nov 05, 2022 2:24 pm

A humorous piece in the latest CHESS by Jonathan Rowson. Unfortunately not part of the 16 page PDF sample.

Carlsen is the Goat, Niemann the Scapegoat, Nakamura is the Elephant, the Blue Bird is twitter and we all troop in as mooing cows. CHESS says it is inspired by Animal Farm however it reminded me of Alan Coren who sometimes took a current situation, set it another place and added caricatures. (instead mooing us cows shall be suing!)

You can download a full PDF for £5.99 and to pay for this nip into your local bookie. The Breeders Cup is being run today at KEENE land and there is a horse running called 'Modern Games.' stick £5.00 on to win.

William Holman Hunt painted an excellent portrait of Hans Niemann in 1854. You can see it in this wiki article, which also explains the biblical origin of the scapegoat:-

The painting can be seen in the Lady Lever Art Gallery in Port Sunlight, amnd another version is in the Manchester Art Gallery.

That version in the Manchester gallery really is a bit weird :)
(Fun article though!).

Modern Games, the 6-4 favourite in the 7.10, duIy won - aIthough you wouIdn't have made a fortune based on a £5 bet. But good pick, Geoff.
