Post by R G Edwards » Tue Jul 12, 2022 7:05 pm

Always interesting to see genuinely new developments in our game:

I'd be interested to learn other players' views.

Pressing Start Now gets me a 404 page (which I guess might relate to where I am)
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

I can't say I need to know that badly. It's quite information-light as a site, isn't it?

I found the FAQ fairly comprehensive. And it's free to join.

I confess I didn't find anything about who runs it.

It's run by Chess Money LLC, the CEO is Claudio Marcus:

I'm not on LinkedIn, you'd have thought the site might like to name some of the people involved

"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

It's not standard practice for a small company to list its officers on its website.

Amazing that "a few world class technology, design and marketing professionals" wish to lie low and not have their names linked to their world class work.

My initial reaction: I can guess at the premise but what is this thing and how does it work? I'm not immediately told. Good bye.

To cut to the chase, the absence of transparency here is a big red flag, especially in people who are inviting the public to gamble their money, and this strikes me as a site to avoid.

My view would be that if you want to play engines you can download stockfish for free and not have to get beaten up as well as losing money in the process - no chance in hell this site will not get heavily targeted by cheaters looking to rob a few dollars from unsuspecting victims.
Lose one queen and it is a disaster, Lose 1000 queens and it is just a statistic.

I don't see a lack of transparency. It list the company's name and registered address and the CEO is a matter of public record.

If small companies listed who was involved in the company, all you would generally see is this:

John Smith -website
Paul Brown -coding
Fred Bloggs -backend
Sarah Jones -legal

Unless your company is fortunate enough to have a celebrity investor, these names would mean nothing to people. This is why it isn't done.

This doesn't invalidate the proposition. Almost every well-known company you can think of started off as tiny company set up by people you had never heard of. And I'm sure you buy goods and services online frequently without checking who directors of the company are.

I don't see how this is substantially different. Unless it has Garry Kasparov on side, there's no point it listing the personnel.

And the sums being wagered are tiny.

Gnerally an About Us section lists some actual human beings, this isn't difficult
