Impressive work managing to keep a club open for over a century. The founding members may be long gone (I expect even if they were alive today they would still be dead) but I'm sure they would have been very pleased to see their legacy intact.

Maybe the Guildford members were similarly experienced?

Is Guildford Chess Club the oldest chess club in England?
Is there any other chess clubs in England over 100 years old?

No and Yes.
However, Guildford has used the very same venue (The Guildford Institute) since its inception.
I would say that was unusual but probably not unique.

Liverpool was formed in 1837
Manchester was over 200 years ago now but no longer exists

If you had to play a match there you might not think that.

Ian, the Institute has undergone a major refurbishment since (I think) you last played there.
