Based on what he says, there are hard and fast reasons why chess is not booming in the uk. He himself points out there needs to be more structure in place. If we move a generation on, its hard to see England holding its place globally, I don't think we'll be looking at top ten finishes in the Olympiads when the next generation comes through.

The trouble is, full time coaches won't get you to the top of world chess if you haven't got full time players for them to coach.
