Please would you be kind enough to follow your own maxims, withdraw your attack on me in the "Chess Problems" thread, and reply to my innocuous there.
Hi David, there's no personal abuse on that thread. If you think otherwise I would strongly encourage you to report it. I would however strongly discourage you from eliding criticism with abuse.
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

does it matter if you are playing a cheat if you can't tell they are a cheat?
It's an interesting question (genuinely, I think, and on nore than one level) but isn't part of the answer that they are never truly replicating play at your level, because the balance of different types and seriousness of error isn't going to be the same? (I guess this means that over the longer term, perhaps you would be able to tell they were a cheat.)

I would much rather that you moved things forward by answering my question.

<Moderator Hat>
Just as a general note, asking people for evidence of their claims is perfectly acceptable in threads of this nature, and does not warrant the meta discussion that resulted here. If you really can't stand a poster's posting style, please consider using the foe list feature rather than insulting them in the thread.

I've had one game on Lichess where I got a rating refund for losing to a cheater. I thought at the time he was playing well, but had no other suspicions.

Are you aware that you can create a "foes list"? When you add a poster to it, their posts don't show up.

I have just tried it out. It does indeed provide some respite.
The use of the foes list is recommended by the moderators who are ploughing through multiple complaints this morning.

I'm sorry to hear that. I had assumed that, when someone says they are reporting a post, they are generally just making a point and are not actually going to do it. Carl and Jack are unlikely to miss anything worthy of official action anyway.

Subject to the discretion of the moderators, I'm not sure why we need protection from contact with views with which we may disagree. We're not Oxbridge students. My approach to a particularly odious post is to save it, so that if it disappears for some reason it will not be lost to posterity.

Quite a few of us are ex-Oxbridge students.

To be honest I tried using the foes list but found it irritating to be alerted to a new post by Nick and then not be able to read it....
