10 in 1 -a record?

Post by MJMcCready » Wed Apr 07, 2021 3:04 pm

Ten checkmates are delivered in one blow here. Can you find the move which did it and can it be/has it been beaten in a single move in seperate puzzle?

Yes

No. I think it's easily demonstrated that 10 is the limit - when a piece moves it can result in at most 3 discovered checks by another piece, plus a maximum of 7 direct checks by a knight.

I'm sure you are correct about the 10 mates max from one move. It sounds right.

On slightly the same theme, there are 105 ways to mate in one here but from different moves.

Put it into a computer and watch as it blows itself up (or it finds 106!)

You have to love the way the Black pawn is included to make it a legal position

I only counted 91 in that position.
