In moved from a state of being suspicious to both annoyed and even more suspicious, I thought I'd ask for opinion on something I keep picking up on.
I play a lot on line, usually 10 or 15 minute games but sometimes 5 minutes game also, but every 20 games or so something keep happening which I think I know what it is but I could be wrong.
I do have a tendency to play rather offbeat or quaint openings, and whenever I play someone with a rating of 1800 or lower after the first few moves have been played they go into a long think, like 2 or 3 minutes. Before move 5 I find this difficult to understand. My feeling is that opponents are opening browsers and quickly googling the opening I am playing so that they can find out what to do against it, as much of the play is bookish when this happens.
I could be wrong, someone might be distracted or something, I can't say for sure but why would someone pause on move 2 for 2 minutes when they have only 5 or 10 minutes on the clock?
allo allo allo, what's all this then, whats all this then.

That sounds about right, based on what I hear coaches tell juniors.MJMcCready wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 7:49 am

But why be stumped be the Vienna Gambit on move 2 or sometimes 3, takes 2-3 minutes off and then play a book line for the next 6-12 moves?

Can you provide us with examples of some of these games

Well that's tricky because I would have to scrall through timestamps but I think its clear. 1. e4 e5 2. Nc3 then either Nc6 or d6, then either Bc4 or f4, and at least a two minute think followed by okay play. WIth a maximum of 10 mins, that's suspicious to me.

Well that's four different possibilities, do you have examples of all of them?
