On Line Auction today (3rd September)
I draw your attention to Horner's Auction today:-
https://gaplive-eu.globalauctionplatfor ... lang=en-gb
Items 395 & 396 were £5 yesterday but now stand at £75 and £340 respectively.
Both are boxes of chess books with the latter consisting of numerous Fritz and database disks.

Thanks for posting this, Neil. I had a bit of a punt, but stopped considerably below the final prices realised!

Wow, what a result, I'd have thought they would have been lucky to break the £100 mark.
Lose one queen and it is a disaster, Lose 1000 queens and it is just a statistic.

I was thinking that! It's given me hope for when I sell most of my collection.

I wondered what it was that attracted bidders - I couldn't really see the names of the books on the pics!

When the auction was live and in viewing you could look at all the pictures (larger) and see the book titles. There were substantial Fritz Trainer DVDs in the latter lot. I presume from what was said that they came from a house clearance of a deceased player. Clearly (apart from the money raised for two cars) they were the highlight of the auction. You could have furnished a house for a minimal amount looking at what the other lots sold for.Adam Raoof wrote: ↑Thu Sep 03, 2020 9:40 pmI wondered what it was that attracted bidders - I couldn't really see the names of the books on the pics!

Where did you find out about these online auctions? I often watch bargain hunt and wish to myself I could be picking up 17th century oak tables for a tenner (or whatever ridiculously undervalued prices furniture seems to go for in mid week auctions these days)

I remember seeing the entire collection of British Chess Magazine Yearbooks at Sotherbys once. The asking price was £15,000.
