I believe there should be more interviews published shortly following the one with Pontus Carlsson.

When Pontus was on The Perpetual Chess podcast (1st appearance) he talked about various experiences of racism he has encountered in life, but said that within the chess community he has not encountered it, if i remember correctly.J T Melsom wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 6:28 pmI've not witnessed direct racism at a chess event, but that is not to say it doesn't arise. And the chess community may be remiss in the welcome it extends to people of colour. We really need to hear from those with first hand experience

Then I'll happily resign and you can get along better...
Except you only get along with those who agree with you, and if we all have to do that to get along then count me out.

Rather sad, but entirely predictable, that this thread was hijacked by a few who preferred that it was not engaged with in a meaningful manner.

I can only say what I see, and the mix of ages, races, religions and colours at my events is so much wider that it has ever been. I'm in London, which affects what i experience.

The only thing I will add on this subject is that Buddha and Confucius were both right.
All lives matter.
All lives matter.

Simon, have you taken any trouble at all to find out why the answer "all lives matter" is not considered a helpful reply to "black lives matter"?

Re: Black (Grandmaster) Lives Matter
I treat everyone equally on this forum. Whether they have left wing or right wing views.
I likewise I treat everyone in the world equally.
This topic was becoming too political and not related to chess.
Which reminds me of the Worrying Times topic, where people had a go at each other personally and trolls joined in.
I hope I have gained many friends on this forum since I joined at the end of April.
I have no intention to fall out with anyone which is why I started to send Private Messages to forum members.

Simon, you can't really expect this topic to be less political given recent events . If you can't see what a thread about how black chess players are treated has to do with chess then you may need to think a bit harder. And you would be strongly but gently advised not to contribute unless you are prepared to have your views challenged. Plenty of other topics you can post on. I'm glad you are enjoying the forum.

Thanks for that thoughtful contrib, Simon.Simon Rogers wrote: ↑Thu Jun 11, 2020 2:39 pmThe only thing I will add on this subject is that Buddha and Confucius were both right.
All lives matter.
Not sure about what Confucius said about all lives...
But when questioned about what happens after death he replied: why speculate - wait until you die and you will find out.
The Buddha preached that ALL LiFE matters not just that of humankind - something we have forgotten except in the case of our beloved pets.
This thread is on a touch(y) and go topic - I've touched in and it's time to go.
(I've sent you a PM Simon.)
