I've still not seen the film yet.
I have recorded it on my hard drive along with
Queen of Katwe last November.

If you notice The Luzhin Defence popping up somewhere than an alert would be most welcome.

Bonus question: In which film does Kurt Russell become slightly annoyed with a chess playing computer?

"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

How could I have been so stupid as not to have asked Kavalek about his work with Fischer in the last nine games of that match?
I met him at the Lowndes Hotel in 1987 and I´ll never be able to fully forgive myself for letting such a chance slip away.

How could I have been so bloody stupid?

(btw, Neville, I must add that Liev Screiber was very similar to Spassky in appearance!)

Watch out for the huge dramatic moment in one game at Reykjavik where Spassky opens 1.d4 and Fischer replies, to the utter astonishment of his backing team, 1...Nf6. "<Gasp> The Benoni! He's playing the Benoni!" It's funny how here and in a few other places, input from chess consultants has clearly been sought and used but then got mangled in the editing of the film.

Is that the film where the seconds following the game feel obliged to press a clock every time a move comes through or when they are making an analysis suggestion?

That rings a bell now you mention it, yes. I watched Pawn Sacrifice a few years ago and can't recall exactly what you say now, but it rings true. And it fits the impression I remember of the film that it is decidedly dodgy on the details of what goes on in a World Championship match.

Of course Toby McGuire was in the film as Bobby because it was his project.
I think the title of the film, 'Pawn Sacrifice' was nonsense.
I played some blitz games with Bill Lombardy in Reykjavik. He won all of them . I asked, 'Aren't you finding it boring?' He responded. 'No, I'm bored wih just being a chauffeur.' I took this to mean he seldom discussed the actual chess with Bobby. I think the truth is - he enjoyed winning, even against patzers like me. In 1970 he refused to discuss his adjourned third game with Petrosian, when Larry Evans suggested it... 'No, if I win, they'll say Eevns won it, not me.' David Levy, Larry and I looked at each other and left to go to the casino and win some money at blackjack.
I just met Bobby once in 1972. He behaved perfectly naturally just as I rememberd him from 1963-5 and 1970 and he remembered me. But it was in the period of the match where he had buiilt a substantial lead.

The film was not supposed to b a documentary. e.g. Boris dismantling his chair during play! It was Bobby who thought the chair were rigged - and inspecting the chairs during play!
The whole business about Bobb's paranoia came later as did his being anti-Jewish. These matters were shovelled inton the film.
I expect a large number o films I see, 'based on', where I don't know much; are full of 'mistakes'.

A film about Paul Morphy? Why not. I think the club named after him still exists in New Orleans.

LOUIS VUITTON
A whole page ad in the Sunday Times news section. Two people are playing chess. The whole board is not visible. The only caption

I presume i is the usual thing about chessplyers being discerning people - not cheats. I just don't understand the point of the ad.

Fischer made some rather "off colour" comments about Jews when he was young, even if his full blown anti-Semitism only happened later.

It's Ronaldo - Messi looking at position based on Carlsen - Nakamura, Norway Chess 2017

And it's photo-shopped. The two players were not there at the same time.
