Those would qualify as historical documents and serve as useful in showing how much chess has changed over the years. Given that FIDE has an online museum of sorts, they should really be on there. Perhaps someone should tell them?NickFaulks wrote: ↑Sat Jun 07, 2025 12:25 pmKevin O'Connell did an enormous amount of work on this and never got any credit from FIDE for it. I'm sure he would be pleased to help if you asked.Christopher Kreuzer wrote: ↑Sat Jun 07, 2025 9:55 amDo you know the years when those different rules for norms were in effect. I presume someone (other than FIDE) has been keeping an archive of previous versions of the FIDE Handbook and rules and the dates?

Perhaps you or Christopher should. There is a Historical Committee which, in my experience, does welcome constructive comments.

Thanks Nick. I would be happy to do that. The Chair would seem to be the logical place of first contact. Mark, maybe send me a PM if you also intend to send in any comments.

I'm nit sure what to suggest here. In past experience I haven't found FiDE responsive and open to suggestion, perhaps because I am not a titled player and have no stature the game or something. Such suggestions need to come from higher up the pecking order methinks.Christopher Kreuzer wrote: ↑Sun Jun 08, 2025 9:28 amThanks Nick. I would be happy to do that. Re: Youngest titled players (world records)
I suspect, Mark, if you look at the list, you will see the committee does not have many titled players. Chess the game, and its history, is for all, not just titled players, though the focus is mostly (rightly or wrongly, mostly rightly) on the world's best players. Here, the focus is presumably tightly on the history of FIDE and its role in chess history.
You are right that representation from eminent chess historians would likely get more traction, but I don't think you should under-estimate the impact a carefully worded approach could have from those with a genuine concern for establishing what is already being done (or is planned) to preserve both the physical and digital records of FIDE (and the history behind that).

Really? Who have you asked, and about what? In my time questions and suggestions to QC about titles and ratings ( provided they were not gibberish, which we did get ) were always answered in detail, and I wished we had received more.MJMcCready wrote: ↑Sun Jun 08, 2025 11:04 pmI'm nit sure what to suggest here.
