A friendly and informal chess club for players of any standard (from complete beginners to Grandmasters*).

We meet on Tuesday nights from 7pm onwards at the Crown and Anchor (Hilton Street, Northern Quarter) to socialise, play chess and have fun.

Aims

The aim of MSCC Manchester Social Chess Club aims to create a friendly environment for chess players and enthusiasts to meet and play chess.

The internet has had an incredible effect on chess. Any player can now sit at a computer and play against players of similar strength from across the world, this is fantastic, but doesn’t give the social experience of actually meeting new people, making friends and learning by talking about the game with other players.

The Manchester and Stockport Chess Leagues provide a fantastic service to players wanting to play competitively, and the Manchester Social Chess Club looks to provide an informal approach to playing that is accessible for beginner and casual players as well as stronger players.

From a wider perspective Manchester Social Chess Club aims to promote chess as a great game that can be enjoyed by players irrespective of age, gender, disability, religion, background etc. In particular MSCC would like to help promote chess in central Manchester.
