@ Loz - wondered what was going on ... the pairings have Daniel down as a zero for Rnd4 - so I'd assumed he was ill or something and had been forced to withdraw ...

Tight finish seems likely, those tiebreak regulations will need a look-through

Yes, what does happen if five players share first on 4/5 ?

There's a tie break rule quoted at
http://www.4ncl.co.uk/fide/tiebreaks.htm

Order of precedence

direct encounter
sum of progressive scores
average opposition
number of wins
drawing of lots

Average opposition would be likely to produce a decisive result.

sum of progressive might already do it - it would certainly put Daniel Fernandez through if he draws this afternoon.

Already looks set up for Fernandez and Pert to halve out quickly in the final round and take the two qualifying places.

Forgive me asking, but have the rest of the qualifiers or invitees to the British Knockout Championship been announced?

Yes, so it seems. So last year's participants likely to requalify.

In answer to Graham, I don't know offhand. I am guessing that Howell, Short, Jones, McShane and Hawkins are playing, but that is only five: unless Sadler is perhaps available. I'd be surprised if Yang-Fan has been given an automatic place again (ahead of Pert and Fernandez).

Ahem. One more player can make 3.5/4, and Freddie Hand may well be on course to do it.

Sorry, I was not paying attention!
I was thinking of going to the venue this afternoon, but if it is likely to be pre-determined I will save a journey - you can see more online. My thought with the qualifying places was whether any of the participants at this congress had either already been selected or might reasonably expect to be selected or invited.

Not now, it seems. Some of the lower rated players on high boards have not quite handled the pressure today and have blown some good positions. (Generally though, Hand has made a very good impression this weekend)
