Goodness, what
has Surtees done with his pawns?
[from moves 6-9: d3, c3, b3, g4. First 11 moves involved moving all the pawns and just two pieces and a few moves later he stuck his king on f1 - yeah, that'll work! King is now 'safe' on h1... The temptation as Black must be to just try and rip the position open and hunt the king down.]
(I can't resize the board to fit the screen, anyone else have that problem?)

Jaunooby plays a London system without Ngf3. Facing it as Black, you wonder why he's deferring developing the Knight until the usual sedate play of a London system hots up a bit when he chucks g2-g4 at you. He was trying without success to make it work at the recent Doncaster Open as well.

There was some defensive logic to all the pawn moves, stopping piece invasions. I would have thought Black is now better, but playing Surtees is like playing Basman, you don't really know how he's evaluating positions until you overlook a semi-obvious tactic.

What Surtees ended up doing in that game is actually really not very different to some of the more space grabbing Tarrasch lines (The 5 Nce2 stuff say). Except with d3 instead of d4 of course, which is probably reasonable enough.
Its when he does it with black it can get rather dodgy.

It turned out to be dodgy with White as well.

There seemed to be a problem with the size of the window showing the games. For me, setting the browser (Firefox) not at full screen size seemed to solve matters.
But they've moved on to round 3 without yet making the pgn for rounds 1 and 2 available anywhere.

Spirit of Atticus) nailed GM Mark Hebden in rd 3. That's the second time he's downed his GM 'bunny'; last time as W in a KID. He'll get Sadler tomorrow with W. Knock him over, and he's well set.

5 moves of the first 6 by pieces? That's really rather radical for Surtees
