Bunratty games live this weekend
Bunratty started a few minutes ago and the top three boards in the Masters (NOT FIDE rated) are being shown live.
1. Nigel Short is Black in a Caro-Kann starting 1 e4 c6 2 Nc3 d5 3 Nf3 a6 (a Speelman idea, I believe) 4 d4 Bg4... against a young Romanian woman Ioana Gelip, rated over 2100, who is living in Ireland presently.
2. Gawain Jones is White in a QG Tarrasch against Irish player Jonathan O'Connor
3. Oleg Korneev (Spanish GM) is Black in a Cambridge Springs against Irish player Stephen Moran.
Four other GMs are also in the field: Mark Hebden, Simon Williams, Alex Baburin, and Peter Wells.

Ah yes, thanks. I forgot to include the link.LawrenceCooper wrote:http://www.bunrattychess.com/live_masters.html
They are also showing the top board in each of the three lower sections, in case anyone is interested:

Three rounds tomorrow, and two on Sunday.
Some forumites are also playing, e.g. Richard Bates who beat me last year in the first round. I'm watching from home this time.

Re: Bunratty games live this weekend
Teething troubles with the DGT boards at Bunratty it seems.
Gawain won quickly and his board functioned ok. Nigel's game seems to be won but after White's 43rd move the board failed to show the end (she was two pawns down and playing on 15 second increments). Board 3 broke down after 12 moves.
Better luck tomorrow, I hope.

That's Philip Short, the current Irish co-champion, playing Gawain.LawrenceCooper wrote:Short-Jones in round 2 http://www.bunrattychess.com/results_masters.html
Nigel is playing FM Pierre Villegas (Monaco).
Bunratty, like most Irish tournaments, uses Swiss Master pairings.
In round 11 there were 11 winners and losers, one draw and two half-point byes (who now play each other).
If Nigel and Gawain continue to win they will probably meet tonight in round 4.
Last year, though, when the tournament was a bit larger and stronger, Nigel lost to Peter Wells with Black in round 3.

No, as I said in an early post, I am watching from home. I am still digesting the hard lessons from Gibraltar. I may play the Challengers next year.MJMcCready wrote: Are you playing too Tim?
As of 12.25pm either my connection is in trouble or the live boards have broken down.
When I last looked:
Gawain seems to be in trouble (pawn down in ending) against Philip Short. Nigel has sac'd two pawns but has a big time plus v Villegas.
Korneev-Bates a very sharp SIcilian.
UPDATE a few minutes later: Connection working again. Gawain got a draw by perpetual check. Nigel has won.
I think the third DGT board has broken down, as it did in round one.
Next round starts 2pm and round 4 at 6.30pm.

I am sure that everyone on site is trying their best, but the live games haven't worked very well. And if you only have six live boards, why would you only show three games from the top tournament. Really only family and friends want to watch the games from the lower events, assuming they have worked any better, that is!
