Re: British Rapidplay
Maybe a bit early for a tournament decider but Ghasi v Hebden in round 3.

Ghasi-Hebden, interesting position (move 27) Ghasi very short of time.

Seems to be something wrong with the clocks on the live transmission.

I did wonder how they were going to do the final round pairings
Leo not surprisingly behind on the clock

Have enjoyed the coverage this afternoon. Shame about the Keely problem mentioned by Lawrence. Anyone know who is playing on board 1 - or 3!

Well there are two Keelys - this southerner didn't even know there was one!

Re: British Rapidplay
Hebden & Ghasi finish on 9/11 winning £375 each I think
Dan Fernandez on 8.5 with Simon Ansell winning £95 each I think

Re: British Rapidplay
No doubt I will be accused of wearing my miserable hat again, but after 30 years of running the event is it unreasonable to expect that round by round results and final crosstables should be available on a timely basis?
Isn't this supposed to be England's (and indeed the UK's) flagship rapidplay event?
And BTW why only four live games? Where did the resat of the live boards go?

First time I've played for several years, now that I'm back in the area, and I enjoyed the event. An excellent, easily accessible venue and it was well-run.Mike Truran wrote:No doubt I will be accused of wearing my miserable hat again, but after 30 years of running the event is it unreasonable to expect that round by round results and final crosstables should be available on a timely basis?

I think the answers to Mike's questions would be easier to fathom if the ECF actually put some money into the event. It is an established, well-supported event with a British title at stake after all. Even a small amount would probably make a difference in some areas, for example the website, and a modest increase in the first prize would probably encourage a couple more GMs to play. The live games should be considered a bonus with the current budget. I don't know how much the National Club costs to run, but in my opinion that money could be better spent elsewhere...
As for the actual play, well, I guess it was a 4-horse race (no-one else scored more than 6.5/11!) and the thoroughbreds edged home by a nose
