As someone who has fairly recently returned to competitive chess, I found today's round 3 games very entertaining and instructive. Even the one draw lasted over 90 moves!

Good to see you playing chess again Simon.
Did you go to Russia with me and Paul Heaton back in July 1990?

Hi Simon, yes I was a team member on this trip back in 1990, though any competitions these days are much closer to home!

It was a very strong team we had with yourself, Paul Heaton, Julian Sethrando, Ben Hague, Paul Isherwood and the Humble sisters.
I believe Ben is now an FM in New Zealand and one of their top players.
I saw Steve Berkeley at Scarborough Congress the last couple of years.
Are you playing at Leyland Congress or Scarborough Congress?

I played the Crewe open earlier this month, scoring 50% which felt ok. A weekend event for me in August is unlikely. I did enjoy following the live games from this Wood Green event, and am also looking forward to following the British about to start now with commentary via https://www.twitch.tv/gingergm or just the games via https://chess24.com/en/watch/live-tourn ... 2023/1/1/1 and https://chess24.com/en/watch/live-tourn ... open/1/1/1
