If interested, the name refers back to an ancient race of warlike people from South Wales who resisted the Romans. I admit I am no expert though.
Paul Hatchett
Captain (Rhyfelwyr Essyllwg)
Welcome indeed, Paul. And please forgive my little joke. As you might imagine, some of us find it hard getting our tongues around Welsh, and you've long been known, affectionately, among my colleagues as 'Rhyl Wysiwyg' for want of the correct pronunciation. Moreover, when typing my post, I didn't have your team name to hand, so used 'our' name for you instead. Which brings me to one aspect of our name for you, namely: we know you're not from Rhyl - that's why it amuses us. You're from
South Wales. But in this topsy-turvy world, the guys from Rhyl and thereabouts in North Wales call themselves
South Wales Dragons. So 'Rhyl
Wysiwyg' perversely you may remain, at least until you surround us, pint in hand one night, and bash into us how to pronounce and spell your real name!
