Tables after round 6 (2012-13 season)

Post by Christopher Kreuzer » Mon Feb 25, 2013 12:03 am

Was looking at the tables after round 6 (though divisions 3s and 3n don't seem to be available):

http://www.4ncl.livechess.co.uk/div1_20 ... 1a-rd6.htm
http://www.4ncl.livechess.co.uk/div1_20 ... 1b-rd6.htm

It appears that round 7 in both pool A and pool B of division 1 will see a winner-takes-all clash between the mid-table teams to decide the final promotion and relegation pool spots (well, Barbican 4NCL 2 can afford to draw their match against Wood Green Hilsmark 2 and Cambridge University 1 can probably do likewise against e2e4.org.uk 1). If that is accurate, those matches should be a shoo-in for the live boards. Anyone worked out the permutations as regards points carried forward to rounds 8-11 (or not carried forward as the case may be)?

Division 2 looks pretty much settled in both pools if results go the way they have so far:

http://www.4ncl.livechess.co.uk/div2_20 ... 2a-rd6.htm
http://www.4ncl.livechess.co.uk/div2_20 ... 2b-rd6.htm

Anyone want to make a prediction for relegation and promotion favourites between divisions 1 and 2? King's Head in division 2 pool B are still on 100%. The others teams on 6 wins from 6 are Anglian Avengers 2 in division 3 south and Bradford DCA Knights A in division 3 north. BCM Dragons and Blackthorne Russia (both in division 1) only have a solitary draw each from the six matches so far, while North East England (division 2) have lost all their six matches so far.

Well, the two matches you mention have direct consequences for the title chasers too. Guildford 1 would very much like e2e4 to win, so that their draw with Wood Green 1 will carry. Sambuca Sharks' survival chances may depend largely on e2e4 not progressing, on the other hand. Wood Green want to win against Barbican 2 for two reasons - not just the position of their second team, but so that their draw with Guildford 1 will carry! White Rose's chances of repeating their third place finish will depend a lot on Barbican 2 v Wood Green 2 as well - they have a clear interest in seeing the latter prevail. South Wales Dragons would like to see Barbican 2 prevail on the other hand. Well, it just goes on!

Mind you, if Wood Green absolutely stack their teams to strengthen their second team and succeed, they will then have the distinct problem that their second team may be strong enough to make a result against their first team on the Sunday!

Div 3 North has been more competitive this season, but Bradford A are strong, will be interesting to see how thy get on against Anglian Avengers 2

Probably will come into the final weekend with so many points that they can afford to lose all their games and still get promoted, it seems that any ambitious teams wanting to get into the higher divisions are best starting in the northern league as they can get a much easier run then fighting it out in the shark tank of the main div 3.

Poor old bristol look set to get royally screwed, likely getting into the promotion pool with a record 0 points when they are stolen away during the merger.
Lose one queen and it is a disaster, Lose 1000 queens and it is just a statistic.

Joey,

I think Bristol will carry 1 point into the promotion pool (they drew with White Rose 2), if the beat KJCA (which I expect they will)

Looking at Div 2 Pool B, they way it has transpired it has become a top 4 league and a bottom 4 league, therefore all teams going forward into the promotion pool (Kings Head, White Rose, 3Cs and Bristol) all have lost their wins against the bottom 4 (in fact Bristol have only won 3 out of the 4, where as the others have won all 4)

Dont know about Div 3 North being easy..???
When these teams meet up with the `south` they usually aquit themselves quite well.
However, a few additional teams would be very welcome from across our area, and I hope teams and players and chess groups will consider entering. They have some excellent venues and the weekend occasions are a great feast of chess in our region. Some teams from the `south` should also give this some consideration, not least to support this excellent event, which has provided fresh blood for the higher divisions.
And here`s the challenge to those teams...if they think they`ll get an easy ride and fast track to Div 2, why not come and join the party.
Its worth noting that this `league` caters for a whole variety of players, from circa 230ish down to 135ish, so putting together a team of 6 players should not be too demanding. Those interested might care to contact either 4ncl or any of the current captains...contact details on the 4ncl website.
Why not gather a team/squad and enter next seasons event... teams from our area, which extends from Stoke/Notts in the Midlands to the Scottish Borders are more than welcome, and guarenteed some great chess weekends and some excellent social...

The merged Div 3 now has 5 rounds for things to even themselves out

The position at the top is:
12 points - Bradford A and Anglian Avengers 2
10 points - Camb Univ 2, Sussex Smart Survivors 1, Hackney and Cheddleton 2
9 points - FCA Solutions 1 and Guildford 3
8 points - The Rookies and Bristol 2

with only 4 teams being promoted, so all to play for

I assume Anglian Avengers 2 will play the 2 northern league teams, Bradford A and Cheddleton 2, allowing everyone to see the true position going into the final weekend

The games from Cheddleton v Wood Green would not take much room

What's the story there? All eight games finished in draws. The number of moves (in what I think is board order) were (14, 85, 15, 24, 17, 21, 15, 25). Actually, might as well just post the games... Clearly four out of those eight games were 'short' draws. Board 2 went on a while. Not sure about the others.

I'd already eliminated seven of those from my enquiries
