Round 11 Monday 7th May

Post by Martin Benjamin » Mon May 07, 2012 2:09 pm

It's raining, the children are zoned into the PlayStation and the DIY can wait, so for once I have time to dip in to the live 4NCL games between Bank Holiday household chores.

Commiserations to Elisabeth Paetz. We have all had days like that, although Nigel Short took advantage of her mistakes smartly.

Surprising to see Jon Speelman taking a draw so early.

Terrific win by Jean-Luc Weller against Jim Plaskett the other day, given the rating disparity. I expect Jean-Luc is an up and coming youngster undergraded at 2074, although it would be nice to think he is a middleaged 180-190 woodpusher like me having a good day!

Scrub that. Family wins out again. I should have known better.

These damn 'families' seem to be nothing but trouble to hard working chess players.
Lose one queen and it is a disaster, Lose 1000 queens and it is just a statistic.

Teach them to play and hopefully in a few years they can take over while we retire to the bar !
